Assessing Climate impacts on the Quantity and quality of WAter

The Glaciology and Climate Change Department of CECS focuses its research activities on the study of glaciers variations and their relation to climate change. Through CECS the project will benefit of a local support and a contact to stakeholders of the Aconcagua river basin.

Andres Rivera, PhD in geography, works on analysis of glacier variations and glacier-flow dynamics. As main representative for the GLIMS project in Chile, he will offer a substantial contribution to the retrieval and analysis of satellite and other remote sense data that will be used both as input and for validation of the hydrological models in the Aconcagua Basin, where data scarcity is a more constraining issue than in European countries.
