Hydrology Conference 2010The Changing Physical and Social Environment: Hydrologic Impacts and Feedbacks 11-13 October, 2010 Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa, California, USA This major international conference, taking place in San Diego, USA, October 11 – 13, 2010, will target the developing interdisciplinary science themes in the interface between hydrology and other scientific disciplines, including climate change, biology, chemistry and social sciences. These subjects are of particular relevance as population increases and a changing climate bring new pressures on hydrological systems around the world. |
International Summer School on Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (ISSAOS 2010)Climatic Change and Impact on Natural and Protected Areas 30 August – 3 September 2010 L’Aquila, ITALY Director: Prof. Martin Beniston Purpose: The purpose of the summer school is to revisit the concepts and ideas of a previous workshop held almost 10 years ago, about Global Change and Protected Areas (September 1999 in L'Aquila), to assess progress that has been made in our scientific ability to generate detailed climate projections at the regional scale that are of use to impact modelers, stakeholders and decision-makers working in the context of protected natural areas. The main objective of the school are thus to provide the students with an insight into climate and impacts modeling techniques, as well as environmental monitoring and decision-making strategies for regions that are not always easily accessible and rich in data. There will be ample opportunity to sample interdisciplinary approaches to complex environmental problems and to exchange ideas and questions between the lecturers and the students. Topics: Introduction and relevance to protected areas
Summer School on Biogeodynamics and Earth System SciencesThe Summer School on Biogeodynamics and Earth System Sciences (BESS) addresses the scientific issues posed by a deep understanding of the coupled dynamics of biotic and abiotic components of the Earth System, e.g. related to climate-biosphere interactions, the bio-geomoprhic processes that shape the landscape, the two-way interaction between atmospheric and biospheric processes at the surface. World Water Week 2010The World Water Week in Stockholm is the annual meeting place for the plant's most urgent water-related issues. Organised by the Stockholm International Water Institure (SIWI), it brings together experts, practitioners, decision makers and leaders from around the globs to exchange ideas, foster new thinking and develop solutions. |
